Do you Micromanage?

Do you Micromanage?

You may think you are a good manger, but are you micromanaging? Ask yourself the questions below and if you are, change your management style.

Are you a micromanager? from My Managers Network.

No one likes a micromanager. There is a difference between holding your employees accountable and micromanaging their every move. 5 signs YOU are a micromanager:

1. You frequently find yourself frustrated because employees can't do the job as well as you could.

2. You always have your employees redo their work several times until it fits your specifications.

3. You check in daily to see how a month-long project is coming along.

4. You know EXACTLY what each and every one of your employees is working on at any given moment.

5. You are doing the work you hired others to do.

Follow these tips for keeping employees responsible for their projects and actions without smothering them.

1. Hold regularly scheduled meetings to gauge progress. If the meeting is always scheduled, employees will continue working hard to show progress at each meeting.

2. Buy in to their projects. Make sure employees know that you are counting on them for important projects and trust them for the job.

3. Don't let committees or groups be responsible for a project. Give people specific tasks and roles. If a specific job doesn't get done, there won't be any finger-pointing.

4. If an employee misses deadlines or consistently underperforms, start replacing them. (This will be a huge wake-up call.)

5. Celebrate success. If an employee is successfull, make sure they know that you have noticed. An employee should take responsibility for success as well as failures. How do you hold employees accountable without being a micromanager? Were you ever driven crazy by a micromanager?
