Real Managers Do It On The Shop Floor

Real Managers Do It On The Shop Floor

You will hear the experts say "If you do not like your job leave." That is fine if you have no responsibilities, but if you have a family it is a different matter. I find that the people who say this are the ones who are doing well and are happy at their job. It is the same throughout life, the ones who are doing well are happy with their lot and have little concern for others.

As a good manager you can not take that attitude. If you want people to work well for you then you have to appreciate their position and the pressures they are under. The only way to find this out is to talk to them. Before you start to say you do not have time, I would say rubbish. It is a question of priorities. You need the information from the bottom to help you make decisions at the top. Getting information second hand is not the way to go.

Finding out team members frustrations and complaints are a priority for any manager. Do not try to suppress comment, encourage it. It is one of the ways to be a successful manager.
